About Laura

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who works with adolescents (12+), adults and families by providing a compassionate, affirming and non-judgmental space to explore life’s challenges. With over 15 years of experience, I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is an integral part of helping my clients to achieve personal growth, improve awareness and gain insight into patterns of emotional issues.

My areas of experience include anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, LGBTQIA+ issues, women’s issues and mood disorders. I am well versed in perinatal mental health, gender identity and relationship conflict.

My Approach

I take a personalized approach to each client's care, tailoring treatments to meet their unique needs. I believe that everyone deserves access to affirming and culturally competent care and I strive to foster a safe place for my clients to be their authentic selves. I use an eclectic therapeutic style incorporating interventions from multiple therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy to help my clients achieve their mental health goals.

Services and Insurance

I provide both in person and telehealth sessions. My office is located in the Spring Ridge area of Frederick, MD.

Why don't I take insurance?

Privacy and Confidentiality: Insurance companies require a formal mental health diagnosis and sometimes ask for detailed progress notes to approve or continue coverage. By not working through insurance, I can protect your privacy more fully and keep our work truly confidential.

Treatment Flexibility: Insurance companies often limit the number of sessions or types of therapy they’ll cover. By working outside of that system, we can tailor our approach and timeline based entirely on your needs, not on what the insurance provider allows.

Administrative Burden: Working with insurance involves a significant amount of paperwork and time, which can take away from the time I dedicate to my clients. Staying out-of-network allows me to focus on providing quality care rather than managing billing and claims.

A little bit about what got me here.
